| Black History Month
In December 1995, the month of February was officially designated as Black History Month by the Parliament of Canada. In celebration of this, the Centre of Integration has hosted the Annual Black History Market and & Cultural Showcase every February for the past 4 years. The Black History Market & Cultural Showcase is an event which is aimed at educating the Lower Mainland Community about the historic contributions of the African/Black community. The Black History Market & Cultural Showcase is a medium for entertainers, merchants and non-profit associations to educate, promote and celebrate African/Black and multi-ethnic culture, through food, dance, fashion, music and goods & services. Guests will be treated to exciting African rhythms by local artists, succulent ethnic cuisine and unique arts & crafts from Africa and other countries.
Leaders of Influence An informal gathering of leaders from the Black/African Communities in the Lower Mainland and surrounding areas who meet to explore ways of strengthening the community through capacity building. Events are held quarterly. CIIA Market The CIIA Market was created to promote local African/Black merchants who might not otherwise have an opportunity to showcase their wares. Small businesses are invited to promote and sell their goods. The first Market Event was held in December 2006.
